We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a significant new project at the historic Great Saxham Hall in Suffolk. This prestigious restoration will involve a series of critical works aimed at preserving the architectural integrity of the hall, ensuring it remains a treasured landmark for years to come. Below are the details of the upcoming works, which reflect our ongoing commitment to quality craftsmanship and heritage conservation.
Project Overview
- Removal of Existing Welsh Slate: The first phase of the project will involve the careful removal of the existing Welsh slate from the roof. This step is essential for preparing the roof for the installation of new materials while maintaining the historic character of the building.
- Removal of Existing Lead Roof Coverings: In addition to the slate, we will strip the existing lead roof coverings, allowing for the introduction of new, more durable materials that will enhance the longevity and protection of the roof.
- Recasting of the Existing Lead Roof Coverings by CEL Lead & Hard Metals: As part of the restoration process, the existing lead roof coverings will be recast by CEL Lead & Hard Metals, specialists in leadwork restoration. This ensures that the historical materials are reused and revitalized in a manner that respects the building’s heritage.
- Installation of New Sand Cast Lead Roof Coverings: Once the roof is prepped, we will install new sand cast lead roof coverings. Known for their durability and weather resistance, these coverings will provide long-term protection against the elements while preserving the hall’s classic appearance.
- Installation of New Sand Cast Lead Flashings and Back Gutter to Chimney: The project will also include the installation of new sand cast lead flashings and a back gutter to the chimney, ensuring a watertight seal and safeguarding the chimney structure from future damage.
- Fabricate and Install New Code 8 Lead Rainwater Pipe: As part of our attention to detail, we will fabricate and install a new code 8 lead rainwater pipe, enhancing both the function and aesthetic appeal of the building’s drainage system.
- Supply and Install New Welsh Slate: To restore the roof’s original beauty, we will supply and install new Welsh slate, chosen for its quality and historical accuracy, ensuring that the hall maintains its timeless appearance.
- Masonry Works to New Flashings and Chimney: Finally, we will carry out essential masonry works to the new flashings and the chimney, ensuring both elements are fully integrated and protected from future wear and tear.
