The scope of Phase 2 of our work at Norwich Cathedral involves a comprehensive restoration of the south aisle roof gutters and flashings. This phase is critical in addressing areas of concern and implementing durable solutions that will preserve the cathedral’s architectural grandeur.

Key Tasks:

  1. Strip Existing Lead: The first step in this phase is to carefully strip the existing lead from the south aisle roof gutters and flashings. This meticulous process will prepare the surfaces for the installation of new, higher-quality materials.
  2. Replace Gutters with Code 8 Sand Cast Lead: We will replace the old gutters with robust code 8 sand cast lead. Known for its exceptional durability and weather resistance, this material will ensure long-lasting protection against the elements.
  3. Replace Roof Coverings with Code 7 Sand Cast Lead: The roof coverings will be replaced with code 7 sand cast lead, a material chosen for its superior performance and aesthetic appeal. This upgrade will enhance the overall resilience and appearance of the south aisle roof.
  4. Replace Flashings with Code 6 Sand Cast Lead: New code 6 sand cast lead flashings will be installed to provide effective waterproofing and structural integrity. These flashings are crucial in preventing water ingress and maintaining the roof’s durability.
  5. Remove, Repair, and Reinstate Lead Rainwater Pipes to the Nave: In addition to the roof work, we will also remove, repair, and reinstate the lead rainwater pipes connected to the nave. This will ensure efficient drainage and further protect the cathedral from water-related damage.
